Science Competition  2011
The exhibition will be divided into three categories and three levels.
 
The categories are:
1.   Posters/Charts
2.   Models
3.   Working Model
 
The levels are:
1.   Level One: Ages 8-10
2.   Level Two: Ages 11-13
3.   Level Three: Ages: 14-19
 
Subject matter:
The subject matter of the Science Competition will be based on:
1. Any Ayat/s of the Holy Qur’an related to Scientific Facts
2. Any Scientific ideas introduced by Muslim scientists and scholars
3. Any scientific inventions of Muslim scientists and scholars
4. Any scientific information, invention which were not initiated
Muslim scholar/ scientists but have been improved and improvised for the greater benefit of use and function
5.  Any scientific information, invention which were initiated by Muslim scholar/ scientists and later improved and improvised by non-Muslim scholars/ scientists for the greater benefit of use and function.
   
Rules & Regulations
1. The competition is open to all Muslim and non Muslim students residing in the U.K
2. All submitted work must be prepared by the student himself or herself. Any work suspected of plagiarism will be disqualified.  The submitted item will remain the property of the student/s and will be taken back by the student/s after the exhibition
3. Students may work as a group. The size will not be less than three and not more than five.
4. One entry will be permitted per student or group.
 
5. Posters must be of A3 size paper. Any medium (Poster colour, water colour, chalk, pencil sketch) may be used. All posters must be framed in black or silver. Please note that any unframed poster will not be accepted
The Name of Student, Age, Name of School, Contact Telephone. Mobile # must be  mentioned at the back of the poster.
6.Models and Working Models may cover an area of half a metre (50m x 50m) Students may use any medium (clay, Plaster, wood, plastic etc.) an oral presentation of 45 seconds will be required to be made by the student/s about her/his model/working model highlighting its use and value. In case of group work, the group leader will make the presentation
The Name of Student, Age, Name of School, Contact Telephone. Mobile # must be mentioned at the back of or beneath the model.
7. Credit will be given to students who use and improvise simple products available at home
8. Any use of dangerous substance is strictly prohibited. Any use of such products may lead to penalization and disqualification
9. Each level will be graded according to the following criteria:
Posters
1.     Accurate presentation of information………………..………….5 points
2.     Artistic use of medium (poster/water colour, pencil)….……...5 points
3.     Creativity………………………5 points
4.     Originality……………………5 points
5.     Relationship of Qur’anic information to the poster……………5 points
                                                              Total……………25 points
Models and working Models
6.     Accurate presentation of information………………..………….5 points
7.     Artistic use of medium (clay, Plaster, wood, plastic etc)….… 5 points
8.     Creativity…………………5 points
9.     Originality……………………5 points
10.   Oral presentaton….……………5 points       Total……………25 points
11.    First Second and Third positions will be awarded for each category and each level. In case a group wins there will be one award for the whole group.
 12. The decision of judges will be final.

GUIDELINES FOR THE ISLAMIC QUIZ, QIRAT AND SPEECH

COMPETITION

 

LAIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

 

-TO MOTIVATE IN THE MUSLIM YOUTH A DESIRE TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ISLAM THROUGH RESEARCH AND INVESTIGATION

-TO INVOLVE MUSLIM YOUTH IN STIMULATION ISLAMIC ACTIVITIES

-TO ENCOURAGE TEACHERS OF ISLAMIC STUDIES TO ADOPT METHODS OF INSTRUCTION TO CREATE INTEREST OF THE STUDENT IN THE SUBJECT

 

II. PREREOUSISTE:

i.IS A MUSLIM ii. UNDERSTANDS ENGLISH iii. HAS NOT WON FIRST PRIZE IN THE SAME CATEGORY AND SAME COMPETITION IN PREVIOUS YEARS

 

III. GENERAL INFORMATION:

A.THE QUIZ AND QIRAT (QURAN RECITATION IN ARABIC) WILL BE DEVIDED INTO FOUR CATEGORIES AS FOLLOWS:

1.CATEGORY-1: (AGES 5-7) 2. CATEGORY-2: (AGES 8-10) CATEGORY 3: (AGES 11-14) CATEGORY 4: (AGES 15-18)

 

QUIZ COMPETITION: THE MATERIAL WILL BE CHOSEN FROM THE FOLLOWING SUBJECT MATTER:

1.ISLAMIC STUDIES 2. ISLAMIC HISTORY

CATEGORY-1 AND 2: 1. LIFE OF PROPHETS. 2. LIFE OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD(SM)

CATEGORY 3: 1. LIFE OF PROPHETS 2. LIFE OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD(SM) 3. KHULAFA RAHSIDEEN

CATEGORY 4: 1. LIFE OF PROPHETS 2.LIFE OF PROPHET MUHAMMAD(SM) 3. KHULAFA RASHIDEEN 4. UMAYYADS

 

3.QURAN AND SUNNAH: SIMPLE QUESTIONS PERTAINNING TO SURAS OF THE QURAN AND GENERAL INFORMATION ON BEHAVIOUR FROM SUNNAH.

 

CATEGORY ONE AND TWO: STUDENTS MAY REFER TO THE LAST 12 SURAS OF THE QURAN:SURA BURUJ-SURA NAS

CATEGORY THREE: STUDENTS MAY REFFER TO THE LAST 30 SURAS OF THE QURAN:SURA ASR-SURA NAS

CATEGORY FOUR:STUDENTS MAY REFER TO: A. THE LAST 37 SURAS OF THE QURAN-SURA NABA-SURA NAS  B. SURA BAQARA C. SURA TAHA D.SURA YASEEN E.SURA RAHMAN F.SURA MUZAMMIL

 

PROCDURES: EACH STUDENT WILL BE OFFERED TEN QUESTIONS ONE AFTER THE OTHER. AFTER EACH QUESTION IS READ OUT THE STUDENT MUST RESPOND WITH AN ANSWER. HE/SHE IS ALLOWED TO PASS IF HE/SHE DOES’NT KNOW THE ANSWER. THE TIME ALLOTED FOR EACH STUDENT TO COMPLETE ANSWERING TEN QUESTION IS ONE MINUTE.

 

QIRAT: (QURAN RECITATION IN ARABIC): STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO RECITE ANY SURA GIVEN IN THE LIST BELOW FOR TWO MINUTES:

CATEGORY ONE, TWO AND THREE: LAST JUZ(PART-30 OF THE QURAN): SURA NABA-SURA NAS

CATEGORY FOUR: A. LAST JUZ(PART-30) OF THE QURAN-SURA NABA-SURA NAS B. SURA BAQARA C. SURA TAH D.SUARA YASEEN E. SURA RAHMAN F.SURA MUZAMMIL

 

*STUDENTS ARA REQUESTED NOT TO RECITE ANY AYAT WHICH HAS PROSTRATION(SUJUD) IN IT.

 

B.SPEECH COMPETITION: THE SPEECH COMPETITION IS OPEN TO STUDENTS IN CATEGORY FORU(AGES 15-18)

TOPIC: “THE CONCEPT OF BROTHERHOOD  IN ISLAM”

TIME: 5 MINUTES

CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION: I. CONTENT 10  II. ORGANISATION 10  III. REFERENCE FROM HOLY UQAN AND SUNNAH 10 IV. VOICE(INTONATION, PITCH CONTROL) 10 V. POISE(COMPOSURE)

 

THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES WILL BE FINAL. FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD PRIZES WILL BE GIVEN TO THE WINNERS OF ALL CATEGORIES ALONG WITH A CERTIFICATE
